Welcome to the Books of Hope program! We are currently seeking partnerships with schools and organizations around the world who work with vulnerable children.

We will match your school or organization with an American school that is interested in creating handmade, high quality, educational books for your students.

The books are meant as gifts of friendship to help support your students in meeting their educational and English literacy goals. The books will often contain letters and photographs of the students who wrote the books, helping create a personal exchange.

These books are available in English or bilingually in English and Spanish OR English and French. You will have a chance to specify one of these language preferences during the registration process.

There are three main goals for the program:

1. To enhance literacy and learning abroad by creating educational materials for vulnerable children in countries where English proficiency is desirable or necessary for success.

2. To support literacy and learning in U.S. schools by motivating students to read and write for an audience of their peers who will value their work.

3. To foster empathy and social responsibility in American students by providing an effective way for them to learn about and make a difference in the lives of children facing war, poverty, disease, and slavery around the world.

Books of Hope covers the cost of shipping and delivery (including customs, import, and postal taxes and fees). All we need from you is some initial information to enroll your school in the program.

Once the books are delivered, we ask that Books of Hope staff are allowed to visit your school/organization to gather letters, photographs, and video for your sponsor school in the United States OR that you send us any letters or photographs of the books that you are able to collect. Books of Hope will strive to respect your confidentiality policy regarding your students' privacy and identities.

Books of Hope works with educational institutions at all instructional levels and not-for-profit organizations who work with vulernable, orphaned, or impoverished children.

Our efforts will be more effective if you are able to encourage other schools in your community to get involved with our sponsorship program. If we have enough schools participating in your country, we can set up an ongoing exchange between your students and students in the United States. Please spread the word to your neighboring schools!

If you have any questions about your eligibility to participate, please contact director Abha Thakkar at
